Description:

It can have very different dimensions, thickness, veins and shape from plant to plant and this variability makes the cyclamen fascinating even when it is not in bloom. From spring the vegetative rest begins and the leaves often disappear. The flowers have no scent and open until late autumn. Their conformation, with auricular corolla, that is marked by 10 protuberances around the central part, makes the species easily identifiable. After flowering, the stems twist in a spiral, pointing towards the ground and promoting abundant dissemination.

Care:

For cultivation we recommend a location in shady areas.

It can be grown both as a pot plant and directly in the garden in areas where the climate is quite mild.

Flowering occurs between the end of summer and the beginning of the autumn season and the fragrant flowers take on a pink color. The leaves can have the characteristic heart shape, but also round or in some cases similar to a spear. Green and gray give the leaves a very particular color (not lacking with showy streaks).

If cyclamen is used in mixed compositions with other flowering or leaf plants, it is advisable to use bowls or boxes of medium depth, with high quality universal soil or soil for flowering plants. To ensure good drainage, a layer of clay marbles or gravel should be spread on the bottom of the container.

Cyclamen needs an airy environment to reduce the risk of gray mold forming at the base of the stems. However, it should be placed sheltered from the wind and drafts.

It also needs a slightly moist and never soggy substrate.

It is necessary to fertilize cyclamen every 12-15 days, without exaggerating with the doses or with the frequency of fertilizer.
