BEGONIA REX

Native to India, it is a perennial plant but in our climates it is grown as an annual. Begonia rex exists in countless varieties, with spotted and zoned leaves, dark green, light, red or purple. Plants reach 30-40cm in height and even more than 50cm in diameter. The flowers rarely bloom, in pale pink panicles.

It is a very decorative plant, which alone is able to furnish an environment, very easy to keep in a room where a certain constancy of humidity, light and heat can be guaranteed.

CARE: Begonia rex loves bright locations, away from direct sunlight that cause burns on the leaves. In summer it can be moved outdoors, in partial shade. The ideal for this type of plant is to be able to maintain a constant temperature, around 18 ° C, and good ambient humidity, in fact it does not like sudden changes in humidity, light and temperature.

For Begonia Rex it is ideal to prepare a light and well-drained substrate, peaty and enriched with coarse sand to increase drainage. Universal soil or soil for green plants are suitable for its potting. To increase its need for environmental humidity, you can vaporize the leaves with water, while it is necessary to water the soil regularly, always leaving time to dry between one wetting and the next.

To keep the bright colors of its beautiful leaves, we recommend that you fertilize it all year round, in spring and summer every 15 days, less frequently in winter. You can use a universal liquid fertilizer.
