Saxifraga is a plant rustic perennial easy to grow in pot on the balcony or terrace and particularly suitable for the rock garden, having roots that can take root even among the stones. It is native to the arctic and temperate areas, it grows in the form of about 10 cm tall seedlings, which spread out on the ground as ground cover. The effect on the flower beds is particularly suggestive, in fact at the time of flowering, they turn into colorful clouds. It does not fear low temperatures but does not tolerate drought and very intense and long-lasting heat in the summer season. Ideal temperatures are around 18 ° - 24 ° C.

CARE

The saxifrage does not need a lot of attention other than the removal of dried flowers and leaves.

Choose a place for her very bright, preferably in full sun in the colder seasons while in the summer move it to half shade. Repot it annually, in early spring, using a slightly larger container and replacing the soil with a new one.

Let the soil dry between one watering and the next to avoid water stagnation that is harmful to the root system of the plant. In the winter season drastically reduce the watering. During the summer season, when the high temperatures begin to be felt, nebulizes frequently possibly with rainwater to help the plant.

Fertilize it at least three times during the period from April to October with simple liquid fertilizer.

This plant grows without problems in any soil as long as it is well drained, fairly loose and very rich.

It is not pruned but constantly eliminates dry or damaged foliage before it becomes a vehicle for possible attacks by pests of all kinds.
